In the past year, we’ve visited storytellers living in the Acholi Quarter of Kampala to collect folk tales, travelled to Paibona Te-Tugu in Gulu District to listen to nanga music, and Anaka in Nwoya District to listen to riddles. We also had a trip to Pakwach, the heartland of craft making and iron working in Northern Uganda.
With the generous assistance of friends and well wishers, we were able to visit craftsmen and women who are actively practicing ancient traditions such as pottery, basketry, sculpture, iron-smithing, bead making and tattooing.
Heartfelt thanks to family, friends, contributors, and all the wonderful strangers who offered directions, kind words, refreshments and room to rest.
